News from our Principal - Mr Michael Block

As by now, most of you will know I was successful in obtaining a five year contract as Principal of Kananook Primary School. This is a great honour and privilege. I would like to join me in acknowledging and celebrating the news that Mr Gilchrist is now our permanent Assistant Principal. I

I have felt overwhelmed by the messages of support and the good wishes from so many of you. When I cast my mind back to the year 2015, when I first started at Kananook, I remember feeling the excitement that comes with taking on the responsibility of leading such a proud school community. At the time there were just over 200 students in the school.

It was clear to me that the school, which was already highly respected in the educational community, was ready for some change. Over the last three years we have achieved so much together and I never cease to be amazed at how supportive this community is when we have an event or when the chips are down. Everyone in this community should be rightly proud of the contribution they have made to the school. The students at Kananook are a wonderful group of young people. It is pleasing to see the way they represent the school and how hard they work to be the best they can be.

I have so many fond memories of events where our students have shone and risen to the occasion. Our Concerts, community and sporting events, camps and excursions, fundraising events and dress-up days, the list goes on. I feel proud off the fact that when children move beyond Year 6 at Kananook that they are well prepared for the future that lies ahead of them.

Our parent community has been so supportive of me personally and in turn supportive of the school. There are times when we have called upon our parents to roll up their sleeves and take on significant responsibilities and on almost every occasion you have responded with enthusiasm. I have been lucky to work alongside so many fabulous School Councillors and School Council Presidents. I know that in Jenny McCulloch the school has a parent and School Council President who is passionate about ensuring that the school is successful well into the future. You are all in good hands!

My staff are the best team I have ever worked with. They care about the children, they work hard for each other, they take on challenges that come their way, they build strong connections between home and school, they are selfless and they go about their work with a smile on their face and a spring in their step. This team are simply amazing!

I cannot thank you all enough for trusting me with the responsibility of leading your school in 2018 and beyond. We have many more things to achieve as a school in our quest to make ‘Kananook” the most desired school in the area . This school is well-positioned for a prosperous future.

This year we have a number of exciting initiatives and programs including:

-India exchange program

-Professional Learning Community Professional Development Program

-Major school building upgrade works ( starting Semester 2 – 2018)

Schools are not just buildings, they are places where people gather and share life changing experiences.  A bright future is ahead of us at Kananook and I implore you to join us in our quest to be our Best.
