POLICY
The library program focuses on two very important areas:
1. An appreciation and enjoyment of literature
2. The teaching of information skills so that children can access information
The library, with its attractive and interesting environment, is an integral part of the school community. It is an essential resource of the school's educational programs. The library aims to provide children, staff and the wider school community with a comprehensive range of book and non-book materials.
The library should reflect the curriculum, leisure interests and cater for individual abilities within the school community.
Support for children's classroom activities is enhanced through home loan facilities. It is the ongoing aim for the library to update resources in line with modern practices.
Library usage is promoted in a sequential and programmed manner throughout formal class contact. Children's individual research is encouraged at all times.
The library will provide children with the opportunity to develop concepts, skills, knowledge and attitudes towards books and resources, which will help them in work and leisure in adult life.
The library should provide opportunities for children to be independent and responsible.
The library program has an important responsibility to provide relevant, interesting and stimulating language activities. This is especially so, given that language tastes and habits formed in early childhood may influence a lifetime.
Our school library should provide the focus for efficient and effective organisation and use of its resources.
